Jeevan Dhara – Light the Candle

‘Jeevan Dhara – Light the Candle’ is one of our initiatives to mainstream school dropout children, especially girls from the underprivileged slum area at Madangir, Delhi, for their overall development. Through the program we support 75 children from the area. The program started in April 2021 with the financial & moral support of ‘Light the Candle International Inc’ and we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the prestigious organization for its continued generous support.

 

We are glad to state that we have made obvious progress in their lives since inception and can continue to help them to reach new heights. We focus on mainstreaming all the dropout children and also support underprivileged school-going children to continue their studies together with their overall development (Educational, Physical, Nutritional, Social, Mental, Moral values).

 

The supporting activities mainly include tuition classes, study materials, books, school bags, stationery, nutritional food for children, etc.  In addition to the regular classes, we arrange extracurricular activities, basic computer classes, physical training, health and hygiene awareness classes, cultural programs, art & painting competitions, quiz competitions, indoor & outdoor games, exposure trips, observance of important days, etc.  We arrange induction & orientation meetings for parents & teachers.  Special guidelines were prepared & explained to parents for the betterment of their children.

 

It is being implemented with the collaboration of SMMI Sisters (Salesian Missionaries of Mary Immaculate) at Vinaya Bhavan Maternity Centre, Madangir. Sr. Anamika Khess coordinates the program at the centre.  Children are benefitting and improving noticeably through the program.

 

The officials from Light the Candle often visit the centre and evaluate the functions, implementation and its progress.
